More anti-crime measures proposed by Labour

The Labour Party is planning new measures to stop criminals profiting from crime, including confiscating the cash earned from book deals that detail their lives of crime.

The proposed reforms are included in a draft Serious and Organised Crime bill which would be introduced following the May elections, should Labour be re-elected as a majority party.

Other proposals include violent offender orders to ban serious criminals from associating with particular individuals or organisations, and serious crime prevention orders placing further restrictions on certain activities.

Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson said Labour wanted to make it easier for the police and security services to operate across the border between Scotland and England, by allowing public bodies to share information with anti-fraud organisations and an increased focus on cross-border intelligence operations.
