A 28-year-old Dundas & Wilson lawyer has become the youngest-ever solicitor in Scotland to pass the insolvency industry excellence exams, breaking the record set last year by her own colleague.
Sian Williams, an associate in the corporate recovery team, received the news of her success in the UK Joint Insolvency Examination Board exams last week, and was also chosen for the Insolvency Lawyers Association prize for the highest-placed lawyer sitting the exams in the UK.
Last year, Fiona McKerrell, also of Dundas & Wilson, became the then youngest in Scotland to pass the exam, at 29.
The exams are a measure of business acumen and understanding and are now the only route for lawyers to hold an insolvency licence. Previously, licences were awarded based on seniority and experience.
Ian Cuthbertson, head of corporate recovery at D&W, said: "There is no greater indication of proficiency in the insolvency industry than passing these exams, and to do so with such flying colours is an outstanding achievement.
"Sian and Fiona are a great combination with experience and sheer business nous far beyond their years."
