Equal Opportunities Commission Scotland is urging solicitors to advise small and medium enterprises to take a more flexible approach to pregnant employees

Equal Opportunities Commission Scotland is urging solicitors and accountants in Scotland to advise small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to take a more flexible and sympathetic approach to pregnant employees.

A two year EOC investigation revealed that seven out of 10 pregnant women in the UK suffered pregnancy discrimination and had been treated unfairly at work as a result of pregnancy and childbirth.

The EOC has now developed a new web-based pregnancy toolkit, downloadable from www.eoc.org.uk/Default.aspx?page=19177, to help employers manage pregnancy in the workplace in an open and constructive way that benefits their employees and their business.

With support from the Scottish Executive and Lloyds TSB, EOC Scotland is writing to all solicitors and accountants in Scotland, asking them to promote the toolkit to their clients, in order to help them avoid expensive discrimination complaints.
