Maclay Murray and Spens (MMS) has taken over the corporate and property departments of the north east solicitors and estate agents Iain Smith and Co.
Iain Smith will continue to operate independently as Iain Smith Solicitors LLP from its offices in Aberdeen and Stonehaven, but four partners, 11 solicitors and other staff will join MMS from 1 May.
MMS said the deal would significantly boost its plans for growth. Its office at Queens Road in Aberdeen, which opened in 2003, will now have seven partners and a staff of 29.
MMS chief executive Magnus Swanson said the firm would continue to explore possibilities for expansion in Aberdeen. He said the deal was a big move for MMS.
Roy Roxburgh is one of the Iain Smith partners joining MMS. He said the firm was delighted with the outcome of its negotiations. The other partners joining MMS are Fraser Leslie, Stephen Welsh and Gordon Hobkirk.
