Dundee fiscal resigns following investigation into dropping of case

A procurator fiscal depute has resigned following a criminal investigation into an allegation that she had dropped a court case because she knew the person involved.

The Crown Office initially announced yesterday that Morag Stuart, a depute in the Dundee office, had left the service but that the investigation, begun last September, in relation to the alleged attempt to pervert the course of justice would continue. However, a further announcement later in the day stated that it would be taking no further action.

Ms Stuart was reported to the procurator fiscal in Edinburgh in October and suspended from her job while officers from Tayside Police carried out an investigation.

A spokesperson for the Crown Office said that after careful consideration of the facts, a decision had been made not to take any further proceedings.
