A law student at Aberdeen's Robert Gordon University has beaten off stiff competition from qualified lawyers and international law students across Europe by writing a prizewinning essay.
Tracy Ogilvie, 42, scooped the European Employment Lawyers Association (EELA) Essay Writing Award for her 5,000-word essay on "Privacy in the Workplace". Her prize includes 5,000 euro, a year's membership of the EELA, and an expenses-paid trip to the EELA conference in Stockholm in May where she will be presented with her prize.
The competition was open to law students and lawyers qualified for less than five years throughout Europe. The EELA established the annual prize as a means of providing support for law students or newly practising lawyers aspiring to a career in labour and employment law.
Ms Ogilvie said she couldn't believe that she had won the competition, but that travelling to Stockholm to pick up her prize would be a fantastic experience.
A liking for the law obviously runs in the family, as Ms Ogilvie's daughter Sally-Anne is a solicitor and her other daughter Amanda a law student at Edinburgh University.
