Coca Cola plant gym needed staffing and separate cover
An employees' fitness centre installed at the Coca Cola bottling plant in East Kilbride has been closed after the company was told the facilities were not covered by insurance.
The costly equipment had been in operation only a few weeks when it was discovered during an audit that the insurance for the premises, where 400 are employed, was for a manufacturing plant and did not cover the gym use.
Coca Cola decided it would be too costly to take out separate cover and hire the necessary permanent gym staff in case of accident. Some of the equipment was raffled off and the remainder given to a local charity.
