Businesses need policies to deal with harassment if they are to save money, says union
Glasgow is to host one of a nationwide series of roadshows aimed at cracking down on the rising levels of harassment and bullying in the workplace.
HR professionals, employment lawyers and senior managers from businesses in the area are being targeted for the 10 July event, which will include a free seminar for any organisations wanting to find out more. Recent research has shown that 10% of employees are bullied at work and this already costs UK employers more than £2 billion a year in sick pay, staff turnover and loss of production.
The roadshow is part of a joint campaign called the Dignity at Work Partnership run by the trade union Unite and the Department of Trade and Industry.
John Quigley, regional secretary for Unite, said: “Bullying in the workplace is a significant issue for companies across Scotland. We want senior managers in Glasgow to lead by example and show they are taking a stand against bullying.”
The event in Glasgow will provide delegates with advice about the benefits of adopting an anti-bullying policy and how to go about it.
The road show takes place at the Thistle Hotel, 36 Cambridge Street from 9 am to 12 noon.
