Woman sentenced to community service for embezzlement through law firm office
A legal cashroom assistant who embezzled hundreds of pounds by inventing fake customer accounts has been ordered to pay compensation and carry out community service.
Amanda Beat, 39, committed the offences soon after starting work for Miller Hendry's Auchterarder office early last year.
The firm used a facility for customers of the Scottish Building Society to deposit and collect funds and in the first six months of 2006, Beat stole £560 by making withdrawals after setting up the bogus accounts.
When the firm discovered what was going on, the partners refunded the money to the building society.
At Perth Sheriff Court yesterday, Sheriff Robert McCreadie condemned Beat for allowing suspicion to fall on others working for Miller Hendry.
She was ordered to pay £560 compensation and carry out 160 hours of community service.
