A new national helpline offering support and information to anyone affected by sexual violence has been launched in Glasgow.
The Scottish Government has provided £305,555 for the Rape Crisis Scotland National Helpline - the first Scotland-wide telephone support service for victims as well as their friends and families.
The helpline will be open from 6pm to midnight, seven days a week, 365 days of the year, and will be staffed by trained workers and volunteers.
Communities Minister Stewart Maxwell said: "Sexual abuse and violence in any shape or form is deplorable and the Scottish Government takes a zero tolerance approach to it. Sadly, sexual abuse and violence is a reality for too many women in Scotland, which is why we are funding this important support service.
"This new national helpline is a welcome addition to the important work rape crisis centres are doing throughout the country. The service will allow anyone affected by sexual violence to access support, information and advice, regardless of where they live, throughout the year."
The new number is freephone 08088 01 03 02.
