Advocates move to Glasgow

Mackinnon stable heads west to deal with city's high number of criminal cases

The Mackinnon stable of advocates is to move to Glasgow - the first time advocates have operated outside of Edinburgh for almost 500 years.

The 30-strong stable includes Donald Findlay QC and is moving because of the high volume of criminal cases in the city and other work in specialist family and commercial courts, and tribunals dealing with asylum and immigration, social security and child support.

Thomas Ross, director of the Mackinnon stable and a criminal defence advocate, said the stables had been looking at how to provide the best possible service for solicitors and clients.

The Faculty of Advocates was created in 1532 and there are currently 11 stables and 460 members of the bar.
