Government to include restrictions on sunbed use as part of Public Health Bill
The Scottish Government is to tighten up the regulation of sunbed parlours, making it more difficult for people to misuse sunbeds.
The government has agreed to adopt Labour MSP Ken Macintosh's proposals as part of its Public Health Bill. Mr Macintosh wants to see the end of unstaffed sunbed salons and coin-operated sunbeds, and also wants children to be banned from using sunbeds. A consultation on his proposal for a member's bill to implement these measures attracted widespread support.
The East Renfrewshire MSP said more and more Scots were suffering from skin cancer, and the restrictions would help get the message across that tanning was not healthy.
