WS Society admits first "fellow"
Lord Bingham of Cornhill formally welcomed at annual dinner
The WS Society has admitted its first ever "fellow" in the person of Lord Bingham of Cornhill, the senior Law Lord in the House of Lords.
Lord Bingham's admission, by the Keeper of the Signet, Lord Mackay of Clashfern, took place at the Society's annual dinner in the Signet Library.
The event was attended by a number of other distinguished guests including the Lord President, Lord Hamilton, his predecessor Lord Cullen of Whitekirk, the recently retired Dean of Faculty, Roy Martin QC, and Richard Henderson, President of the Law Society of Scotland.
The principal address was given by historian Dr David Starkey CBE, who spoke of how surviving historical institutions like the WS Society inspire us to understand the ideas, motives and aspirations of those who have gone before, which in turn helps us shape the future.
