Digby Brown work with road safety charity to help police support road crash victims
The Scottish personal injury legal firm Digby Brown is to sponsor training for police officers to help them deal with the families of road crash victims.
The training will be provided by Brake, the national road safety charity. It outlines the importance of distributing the Scottish BrakeCare bereavement pack and liaising with families in an empathetic way
BrakeCare, Brake’s division dedicated to supporting people bereaved and injured by road crashes, trains and supports volunteers who have been personally affected by road death or serious injury to deliver the training.
Volunteers share their personal experiences of being supported by professionals, and how this has affected them for better or for worse, in order to impress upon police family liaison officers the importance of their job. The free training will be made available to all eight police forces in Scotland.
Fraser Simpson, partner at Digby Brown, said: “Digby Brown sponsors Brake’s training for family liaison officers to ensure that families undergoing what must be the most traumatic of times receive the very best and sensitive support they deserve. The training is well thought out and delivered and should really help family liaison officers.”
Some 245 people are killed or seriously injured every month on Scotland’s roads.
