Election completes reshuffle of Faculty of Advocates office bearers
Iain Armstrong QC has been elected as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Advocates.
Mr Armstrong succeeds Valerie Stacey QC. His arrival as Vice-Dean completes a series of changes of Faculty office bearers which has seen Richard Keen QC elected as Dean of Faculty, Alan Dewar QC as Treasurer and Alan Summers as Chairman of Faculty Services Ltd.
Stephen Woolman QC remains in place as Keeper of the Library.
Mr Armstrong, 51, called to the Bar in 1986 and took silk in 2000. He was Clerk of the Faculty from 1995 to 1999 and has since been involved in Faculty administration in a variety of roles.
Since becoming a QC he has appeared predominantly in civil cases and is regularly instructed in personal injury cases on behalf of both pursuers and defenders. He is also a trained mediator.
Mr Armstrong said: “The OFT response to the Which super-complaint, the resulting position of the Scottish Executive, the ongoing civil justice review and the continuing difficulties over legal aid all raise issues which must be met robustly and persuasively if the survival of a truly independent referral bar is to be assured.”
