Solicitors are being invited to put forward motions to the Law Society of Scotland's annual general meeting, which is now less than two months away.
The meeting, to be held in The Hub, Castlehill, on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, runs from 10.30am on Thursday, 22 May 2008.
One of the main items to be discussed will be the Society's proposals to allow solicitors to share ownership of their practices with non-lawyers, or indeed sell their practices to others. These will be published once approved by the Society's Council, which meets next week. The afternoon session of the AGM (from 2pm) has been earmarked for this debate.
There will also be an update on the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, solicitor standards and a presentation on the Guarantee Fund.
The deadline for members' requisitions, motions and topics for discussion, which should be sent to the Society's Registrar, David Cullen, is 10 April 2008. The final agenda for the meeting will then be drawn up and sent out to members.
