Will relief nets £23,000

The November 2007 Will Relief campaign raised £23,000 for the five participating charities working for the relief of suffering overseas

Will Relief Scotland, the charity set up by Scottish solicitors exclusively for relief and development in the world’s poorest countries, raised another £23,000 in its campaign last November. This adds to the £16,000 raised by the first Will Relief Scotland, which ran in May 2006.

Founding solicitor Graeme Pagan, from Oban (pictured), said that money had continued to come in ever since the event. Any further money can be sent to him at Queens Building, George Street, Oban PA34 5RZ (t: 01631 563737; e: graeme@willreliefscotland.co.uk).

He added: “We are all extremely grateful to those solicitors in Scotland who took part in the event and for the fantastic sum which has been raised for the five Scottish based charities. In addition, many members of the public have expressed their thanks to Scottish solicitors for their generosity and for giving them the incentive they needed to do the very important thing of making their wills.

“The scheme is such a simple one, with solicitors giving up their fees for a limited period and preparing clients’ wills for them in return for donations to the participating charities. I met with the charities recently and they are keen to be part of another Will Relief Scotland event. This is planned for November 2009.”

The charities involved are Blythswood Care, based in Evanton, Ross-shire; EMMS International, based in Edinburgh; Mission Aviation Fellowship, based in Glasgow; Scottish International Relief, based in Dalmally, Argyll; and Signpost International, based in Dundee. They thank all the participating solicitors most sincerely for the wonderful support they have received towards the vital work they are doing in the relief of suffering overseas
