Judge loses battle with cancer at the age of 62
The judge Lord Macfadyen has died at the age of 62.
He was diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago, but had been sitting in the appeal court up until last month.
Lord Macfadyen was appointed as judge in 1995 after serving as a temporary judge. He was a graduate of Glasgow University and was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1969. He was Vice Dean of Faculty from 1992 to 1995.
Among his judicial duties he served for a time in the commercial court and was a member of the court which heard the appeal against conviction by the Lockerbie bombing accused, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al-Megrahi.
