April house prices show further small climb

The average price of a property in Scotland in April 2019 was £150,825, up by 0.7% on March and 1.6% on April 2018, according to the latest UK House Price Index figures, incorporating provisional data from Registers of Scotland.

The UK average price was £228,903, an increase of 1.4% per cent on the previous year and 0.7% on the previous month.

Residential sales volume in Scotland in February 2019 was 5,387, up 1.9% on the equivalent provisional estimate for February 2018, compared with an increase of 1.7% in England, 1.4% in Wales and a decrease of 6.0% in Northern Ireland over quarter 1 of 2019.

Average year-on-year price increases were recorded in 24 of the 32 local authorities, when comparing prices with the previous year, with the biggest rises in Stirling (8.4%) and North Ayrshire (7.7%), apart from an 11.7% rise in Na h-Eileanan Siar, where figures are more volatile due to the low number of transactions recorded.

The largest decreases were recorded in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire, where average prices fell by 6.2% and 5.6% respectively.
