SSDT website launches

Scottish Solicitors' Discipline Tribunal has a new website covering decisions since 1995

The Scottish Solicitors Discipline Tribunal launched its new website this month. The site, www.ssdt.org.uk, aims to give the public and the profession easier access to findings and represents a major step forward in the Tribunal’s modernisation.

Chairman Fraser Ritchie commented: “Tribunal findings have always been put in the court press basket in Edinburgh but people were looking for information to be available beyond there and to the public. The website allows us to do that and from now on will display the Tribunal’s findings and decisions.”

At present, the site covers decisions from 1995. This dovetails with Smith and Barton’s book, Procedure and Decisions of the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal which covers important cases until that date.

The findings can be searched by solicitor’s name, subject matter and date. Where possible, a link to the Scottish Courts website will show any Court of Session decision on appeal. Decisions will have the names of clients removed for reasons of confidentiality and privacy.

The new site includes information on the Tribunal’s rules and composition. It also contains the latest news, annual reports and some frequently asked questions.

Judith Lea, the Clerk to the Tribunal said: “This site makes the findings of the tribunal easily accessible and provides useful information on the role and work of the SSDT.”

The Tribunal is interested to hear feedback about the new site. If you would like to comment, or would like more information on the tribunal or the website, please contact Judith Lea by email at judithvlea@aol.com or by post at Unit 3.5, Granary Business Centre, Coal Road, Cupar, Fife KY15 5YQ.
