Collected news of new appointments and practice changes

ADLP SOLICITORS, Edinburgh, is pleased to announce the promotion of Katrina Venters to associate.

ANDERSON SHAW & GILBERT, Inverness, is pleased to announce that with effect from 7 April 2014 Iain McDonald and Elise B Thomson were promoted to associates with the firm. It is also pleased to intimate that Susan Scott and Emma Linn have joined the firm as solicitors in the Executry and Conveyancing departments respectively. ANDERSON STRATHERN, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Haddington, has appointed Sara Jalicy as a partner and head of residential property. She joins from BALFOUR+MANSON.

BALFOUR+MANSON LLP, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, has promoted litigation experts Ann Logan and Julie Clark-Spence to partner with immediate effect. Mrs Clark-Spence will head the firm’s Aberdeen office. Also promoted are Louise Duffy, who becomes a senior associate in the litigation team, and Sarah Shiels and Irene Turner, who move up to associate level in employment and property respectively.

BRODIES LLP, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, announces that real estate specialist Helen Abrams is joining as an associate in the real estate team. She will be based in Brodies’ Edinburgh office.

W & A S BRUCE, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Burntisland and Dundee, is pleased to announce that Selina Mackay, Court Department associate, has now been appointed as a partner of the firm.

CLOCH SOLICITORS LTD, Glasgow, has announced that Sheona Burrow, doctoral researcher and university tutor, has joined the practice as a solicitor.

DLA PIPER, Edinburgh and elsewhere, has expanded its Litigation and Regulatory team in Edinburgh with the appointment of Joanna Clark as a legal director. She joins from BRODIES LLP.

INKSTERS solicitors, Glasgow, Inverness, Wick and Portree, announce the appointment of Claire Maguire to its litigation team in Glasgow. She was formerly with FLEXLAW.

Martin McIntyre, who is qualified in both Texas and Scotland, has been appointed group head of legal at international energy services company WOOD GROUP, with responsibility for managing its legal function worldwide as from 1 July 2014.

MACKINNONS, Aberdeen, Aboyne and Cults, has announced the promotion of Nicola Gray to associate in the employment law department. Sarah Murdie has joined the dispute resolution department, from SIMPSON & MARWICK, Dundee.

MACLAY MURRAY & SPENS, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and London, has announced four new partners among 20 internal promotions. They are Lorna McCaa, currently a director in MMS’s tax group, based in the Glasgow office, Claire Armstrong, Edinburgh-based corporate specialist, Craig Neilson of the London commercial dispute resolution team, and Anju Suneja, who works between MMS’s Glasgow and London offices specialising in English property law. MILLER SAMUEL, Glasgow, has announced the appointment of Charles Brown as a partner and head of family law. He joins from MACNAIRS, Paisley. Associates Stephen Connolly (employment) and Deborah Carmichael (commercial litigation), have also been appointed partners.

PINSENT MASONS, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and elsewhere, has appointed Leanne Hill and Michael Shepherd as associates and Charlotte Booth as solicitor to its property team in Aberdeen. Leanne Hill joins from ANDERSON STRATHERN, Glasgow; Michael Shepherd and Charlotte Booth from RAEBURN CHRISTIE CLARK & WALLACE, Aberdeen.

RAEBURN CHRISTIE CLARK & WALLACE, Aberdeen, Stonehaven, Ellon, Inverurie and Banchory, has announced the retirement of partners Brian Healy and Kate Crosby. It is also delighted to announce the promotion to associate of Amy Watson and Jennifer Muir, and the appointment of solicitor Richard Duffy, who joins from GRANT SMITH LAW PRACTICE.

Ralph Riddiough, a partner with BTO, Glasgow, has been appointed as head of legal and democratic services at SOUTH AYRSHIRE COUNCIL. He will take up the position in July 2014.

STRONACHS LLP, Aberdeen and Inverness, has announced eight promotions within the practice. Gemma Hills (corporate) and Jaclyn Petrie (private client wealth management) both become senior associates. Stewart Cunningham and Ian Easton (corporate energy team) have been promoted to associate, along with Erin Grant (employment law). Deborah Edon (dispute resolution), Julie Hamill (residential property) and Jamie Hunter (corporate) become senior solicitors.

THORNTONS, Dundee, Perth, Forfar, Arbroath and Edinburgh; MURRAY DONALD, Cupar, St Andrews and Anstruther; and STEEL ELDRIDGE STEWART, Cupar, have announced that they are to merge later this year. The merged firm, to be known as THORNTONS, will have 40 partners and more than 400 employees, operating from 11 offices and property shops.
