Society hosts professionals' networking event

An event focusing on how professional associations are responding to the challenges of governance will be hosted by the Law Society of Scotland today (29 March).

Professional associations from around the UK are expected to attend the event, which has been organised by the Professional Associations Research Network (PARN) and is titled "The Governance Dilemma: Strategy vs Democracy".

PARN provides research, networking and specialised services for professional bodies in the UK and Ireland.

Today's conference focuses on how professional associations are responding to the need to be robust in their decision-making processes while remaining representative, to benefit their professional members and the public they serve.

The event will be chaired by Hilary De Lyon, chief executive of the Royal College of General Practitioners, and features speakers from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Douglas Mill, chief executive of the Law Society of Scotland said: “We are delighted to host an event which offers an opportunity to share knowledge and benefit from the expertise built up in a range of professional fields.”
