Practice rules confirmed

Three sets of practice rules were approved at this year’s special general meeting held in September and have now also been approved by the Lord President. The rules are:

  • Solicitors (Scotland) Accounts etc (Amendment) Rules 2006. These amend the Solicitors (Scotland) Accounts etc Rules 2001 to take account of changes to the management structure within the Society. They come into effect on 1 December 2006.
  • Solicitors (Scotland) (ARTL Mandates) Rules 2006. These are required to facilitate the introduction of the ARTL system next year. The rules will require the principal mandate to be used under the ARTL system to be sent to the Keeper within 14 days of making application for registration in the Land Register. They come into effect on 1 January 2007.
  • Solicitors (Scotland) (Miscellaneous Amendments) Rules 2006. These take account of the Civil Partnership Act 2004 which has necessitated a number of minor changes to some of the Society’s existing practice rules. They come into effect on 1 January 2007.

Copies of these rules are available on the Society’s website www.lawscot.org.uk
