Drummond Young to chair Scottish Law Commission

Lord Drummond Young has been appointed to chair the Scottish Law Commission for the five years from 1 January 2007.

Appointed to the Court of Session and High Court bench in 2001, Lord Drummond Young succeeds Lord Eassie, who has resigned in order to join the Inner House.

The appointment is part time, with 60% of Lord Drummond Young's time being spent on Commission business, and the remainder on his judicial functions. Lord Drummond Young retains his judicial salary and receives no additional payment.

Announcing the appointment, Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson said that the work of the Commission was highly valued by the Scottish Executive.

"I am sure Lord Drummond Young will make an excellent contribution to the work of the Commission. His wide experience and skills ensure that he is well qualified to take forward the Commission's ongoing commitment to law reform in Scotland."
