Ramblers not to challenge Gloag ruling
The Ramblers Association will not be appealing against the court decision forbidding walkers from accessing areas of Stagecoach tycoon Ann Gloag's estate in Perthshire.
Mrs Gloag won her court battle under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 to keep people off a 12-acre section of her land for reasons of privacy. Sheriff Michael Fletcher ruled that Mrs Gloag's home at Kinfauns Castle required a larger section of surrounding land than normal to be kept out of bounds to maintain her privacy.
Alison Mitchell, convener of Ramblers Scotland, said yesterday that the organisation would not be challenging the ruling because it would be too expensive and too costly. She said her members would now be concentrating on raising awareness of the issues raised by the case in the Scottish Parliament.
