Holyrood committee embarks on consultation over bill
Holyrood’s Education, Lifelong Learning and Culture Committee is to look at changes to out-of-area placing requests and additional support needs tribunals.
The committee, which has been given the task of examining the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Bill, today issued a call for evidence on the bill's proposals.
The bill seeks to amend the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004, which sets out guidelines for local authorities and other relevant agencies which provide services to children who need additional support in their education.
The proposed amendments include extending opportunities for parents and young people to make out-of-area placing requests, and giving them easier access to mediation and dispute resolution services.
The bill also wants to allow parents or young people the right to appeal a decision to refuse an out-of-area placing request.
