Lord Advocate to lead park body murder prosecution

The Lord Advocate Elish Angiolini is to lead the prosecution of the man accused of murdering Moira Jones.

The body of Ms Jones was found in Glasgow's Queen's Park on 29 May this year. Marek Harcar, 32, from Slovakia was detained in the country in June after the Crown Office obtained a European arrest warrant. He was extradited to Scotland in July. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month, with the trial in early 2009.

Originally from Staffordshire, Ms Jones had been living in Glasgow for five years at the time of her murder. She worked for the soft drinks company Britvic.

As Solicitor General Ms Angiolini prosecuted in a number of serious cases but this will be her first trial since being appoined Lord Advocate in 2006.
