Law Awards of Scotland 2009 announced

The Law Awards of Scotland 2009 were announced at a ceremony in Glasgow last night, with awards going to firms and individuals in more than 30 categories.

Among the winners were Thompsons, which was named Law Firm of the Year (over 50 fee earners), Blacklocks as Law Firm of the Year (under 50 fee earners) and Kerr Brown Partnership, which was named Up and Coming Law Firm of the Year.

Practice area "Firm of the Year" awards went to Mowat Hall Dick (family law), Liam O'Donnell & Co (criminal law), Brodies (private client), Miller Samuel (employent), Digby Brown (litigation), Harper Macleod (corporate law) and Morton Fraser (conveyancing), while HBJ Gateley Wareing took Corporate Social Responsibility Firm of the Year, and Pagan Osborne the Marketing Team category.

Top individual awards went to Gilbert Anderson, from Andersons Solicitors LLP, who was named Solicitor of the Year, and Lorne Crerar and Martin Darroch of Harper Macleod, who shared Partner of the Year. The Law Society of Scotland's Director of Professional Practice, Bruce Ritchie, won In-House Lawyer of the Year. Ian Hamilton QC was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
