MMS appoints head of renewables

UK law firm Maclay Murray & Spens LLP has appointed David Cruickshank, a project finance specialist, to head its burgeoning renewable energy practice.

Formerly of Linklaters, Shearman & Sterling and Barclays Capital, Mr Cruickshank’s appointment reflects the firm’s ambition to play a leading role in the Scottish and UK renewable energy markets.

He commented: “With the Scottish and UK Governments committed to achieving ambitious targets on renewable energy by 2020, this is a tremendously exciting time to be working in this sector."

Mr Cruickshank said that renewable energy clients typically required a broad spectrum of specialist legal services and MMS were bringing together senior individuals with a track record in renewables from each of these disciplines.

Alastair McEwan, the partner responsible for establishing the firm’s renewable energy practice, added: “David’s 12 years of legal and banking experience – particularly in energy – make him a natural choice to oversee the continued growth of our renewables practice.

"With both breadth and depth in our renewables expertise, we can meet the diverse needs of a wide range of clients, from land owners, contractors and developers to funders, investors and regulatory bodies.”
