Dates set for ABS referendum

The referendum of Scottish solicitors on whether to support the introduction of alternative business structures will be held between 23 March and 7 April.

The Law Society of Scotland’s Council decided last week to hold an independent referendum to allow all members to vote on whether they support the introduction of ABS, and also whether they agree that the Society should apply to regulate ABS.

The referendum will be by secret ballot and can be done online or by post. It will be run independently by the Electoral Reform Services.

A requisition for a second referendum about the Society’s representative functions will be considered by the Council at its next meeting at the end of March.
