Paralegals' annual meeting this weekend

The Scottish Paralegal Association is holding its Annual General Meeting and Conference, at Glasgow’s Radisson SAS Hotel, this coming Saturday, 17 April.

Highlighting a number of industry issues, the event will particularly focus on the Law Society of Scotland Registered Paralegal Scheme, to be introduced in August this year.

The scheme, devised by the SPA in partnership with the Society, will set criteria and standards for paralegals to meet and adhere to. A major objective is to enhance the public’s confidence in those dealing with their legal matters, through highlighting the extensive knowledge and skills registered paralegals will possess.

Attendees at the event, which is being sponsored by Stronachs LLP, the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and Stirling Park LLP, will hear from Lorna Jack, Chief Executive of the Law Society of Scotland, who will formally announce the launch date of the scheme. A question and answer session on the scheme will follow.

Lorna Jack commented: ‘’The Registered Paralegal scheme illustrates the positive and very productive partnership that the Society has had with the SPA in getting the scheme to this stage. I'm sure that it will be greatly appreciated by many paralegals who want to be able to progress their careers, as well as by their employers who will recognise the benefits of members of their team having recognised qualifications and career milestones.’’
