Lord Tyre, Olivia Giles honoured in birthday list
Two prominent Scots lawyers were honoured in the Queen's birthday list published at the weekend.
Court of Session judge Lord Tyre, who as Colin Tyre QC recently served as President of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the administration of justice.
Lord Tyre also served as a member of the Scottish Law Commission.
He was joined in the list by Olivia Giles, the solicitor who lost both hands and feet following an attack of meningitis and who, with the aid of prosthetic limbs, now dedicates herself to 500 Miles, a charity that makes artificial limbs for Zambia and Malawi. She becomes an OBE "for charitable services, particularly to disabled people".
