Perth and Falkirk firms to merge in cloud-based deal

1 February 2012

Two small legal practices, Kirklands Law Ltd, Perth, and Orme Business and Property Law, Falkirk, have announced their merger – which they hope will be the initial step in forming a Scotland-wide network of offices offering legal and property services.

Under the Kirklands Law Network, individual offices will still trade under their own name with control over their own operation, but enjoy the benefits of being part of a big firm, according to Alan Orme, owner of the Falkirk firm.

A key factor in the amalgamation has been that both companies have embraced a cloud computing-based document and information management system, which allows file sharing and standardised procedures across all offices, meaning that location is no longer an issue.

The combined business will have a staff of 15, including two new trainee solicitors, eight legal and property professionals, accounts and marketing team, and IT support.

Graham Gibson of Kirklands said: “This merger was made possible as both companies believe in delivering a personal, professional and friendly service in a cost effective way. We firmly believe that this amalgamation is in the best interests of our clients and will enable us to offer them a wider range of legal expertise.

"Orme Business and Property Law’s clients will benefit through Kirklands’ knowledge of the residential conveyancing and executry market. Kirklands’ clients’ will gain from Orme’s expertise in the company and commercial market, including leasing, property purchase, and business mergers, disposals and acquisitions.”
