Call for evidence on MSP code of practice

3 February 2012

The rules around MSPs’ conduct in the chamber and committee meetings are set to be reviewed by Holyrood’s Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee, to ensure they remain relevant, appropriate, clear and enforceable.

The review will focus on Section 7 of the Code of Conduct for MSPs, which contains a wide range of provisions relating to General Conduct in the Chamber or in Committee. The Committee will also consider possible changes to section 5 (Lobbying and Access to MSPs) and section 8 (Engagement and Liaison with Constituents) which may arise from its consideration of Section 7. Section 9 (Enforcement) may also require consequential amendment.

As part of a general exercise to shorten and clarify the code where possible, the Committee has put a number of questions out for consultation, with responses required 29 March 2012.
