FLAGS celebrates official launch

2 March 2012

FLAGS, the Family Law Arbitration Group Scotland, celebrated its official launch this week along with its new website

The group already comprises 20 solicitor and eight advocate members who offer to give a decision on a specific contested issue privately and without the need for full court proceedings. Issues could include when was the relevant date at which the parties should be taken to have separated; what the matrimonial assets are worth; how much should be paid in financial support for children; disputes over care of children, including schooling and medical treatment; or the factors to be given weight in the financial settlement.

The website also explains the nature of arbitration and the solicitor's role in bringing a case.

Speaking at the launch, Court of Session judge Lord Woolman said that the most important thing was that the losing party must feel that they had had a fair hearing.
