Society pursues truth about negligence claims

Law Society of Scotland compiles details of firms handling negligence cases against other lawyers
The Law Society of Scotland has written to all legal firms in Scotland to find out whether they deal with cases involving professional negligence against other solicitors.
The exercise is designed to find out whether the reported public perception, that it is hard to find a solicitor who will take on such a case, is justified. It will also inform the Society's statements and policy decisions.
Meantime an enlarged Pursuers' Panel will advise on negligence claims against solicitors. Members of the panel, set up by the Society three years ago, can advise anyone wishing to bring such a claim.
The members, who will serve for three years from 1 November, are Stephen Blane, A & WM Urquhart, Edinburgh; Terry Brennan, Russells Gibson McCaffrey, Glasgow; Tim Edward, Maclay Murray & Spens, Edinburgh; Lyall Moodie, John Henderson & Sons, Dumfries; Iain Nicol, Nicol & Co, Livingston; and Fiona Stephen, Anderson Strathern, Edinburgh.
Stephen Blane, Terry Brennan, Tim Edward and Iain Nicol are currently members of the panel.
