Promotions for five who all started at firm

Harper Macleod LLP has announced the promotion of five of its corporate and litigation associates to partner status. All five originally joined the firm as trainee or newly qualified solicitor.

Bruce Caldow, who began as a trainee, has been promoted to partner for his expertise in sports law and employment law. He is Harper Macleod’s sports practice group leader and the team lawyer for the Scottish Rugby Union.

Louise Hamilton joined the firm’s corporate and commercial department in June 2002 as an assistant and was promoted to associate in December 2003. She has a wide range of commercial experience including corporate formations, acquisitions, restructures, financing and sales.

Sandy Hastie started with the firm four years ago as a litigation assistant in the Edinburgh office. He is involved in a wide range of reparation and insurance matters for both pursuer and defender, as well as general commercial litigation.

Andrew Hunter, recruited as a trainee in 2001, is now practice group leader of the licensing practice group and a part-time tutor in conveyancing at Glasgow University.

James McMorrow, who joined the corporate and commercial department as a trainee in 2000, deals with a variety of large-scale project work including all of the local authority housing stock transfers in which the firm has been involved.

Chairman Professor Lorne Crerar said: "The announcement of these new partner promotions is evidence that the firm’s philosophy of promotion from within nurtures and encourages the best young legal talent."
